3. I had the opportunity to visit Meals on Wheels in Victoria- a service catered to delivering pasteurized meals to the elderly or disabled who would otherwise be unable to prepare their own. Each meal costs an average of AUD 8. The service derives it's funds from the local and federal government. It is run by volunteers who turn up each morning to deliver the meals. I was designated to be a jockey for my partner who was a 70 year old gentleman from Hungary. During the course our conversation in between delivering meals, I found out that he arrived in Melbourne 55 years ago at the age of 15. At that time, a revolution was happening in Hungary which heralded the fall of Communism. The borders to the country began to open up and his family decided to seek refuge somewhere else. The US was the obvious choice but it was already full. Canada was their second option but that too did not materialize and so they ended up in Australia. My point is- when I'm 70 like him, I still want to be the one volunteering to deliver meals and not the other way round.

No life is complete that does not feel upon it some great compulsion, driving it. We want to learn to be loving and patient with all sorts of people, but it is difficult to have patience with some men! Their eye never gleams, they have no passion, no power; they drift. A man that is a real man has something that drives, something that creates enthusiasm.
